The Search for a New Dog
Continued (back). There are two breeds of dog. Well, there are about six, but it comes right down to two. Start with (in alphabetical order):
American Eskimo Dog
Basenji
Border Collie
Finish Spitz
Samoyed
Shiba Inu
Now the Finish Spitz is a foxy little dog, but they are hard to find, and they can bark 150 times in a single minute. I think that's a bit much.
I adore basenjis and shiba inus, but I just have to have fluffy, so they're out.
When I retire, I might be able to tackle a border collie puppy, but right now, Craig will have the puppy in the day, and he thinks a BC would drive him crazy. I don't think it would drive him crazy, I just think he would go out of business.
So we are down to the eskie and the sammy. That was easy. Now, which?
Sams have the world's most delightful canine personality. But they are a bit large, and they only live 10-12 years. Eskies, like sams, are fun-loving and upbeat. They are a bit more conservative with strangers, but that is not such a bad thing. And they have the edge in size and longevity.
We will get a standard American Eskimo Dog, about 17 inches, 30 pounds, fluffy white and lots of fun. The Search Continues.

Jojo (left) was predominantly basenji.
Chiisai was the village-dog version of the shiba inu.
